Have your heaven and earth moved by Platters tribute

A TRIBUTE band to American fifties icons The Platters will play the Regal Theatre in Bathgate this month.

The Magic Platters, led by founder member and Brooklyn-born John Cheatdom, will belt out the hits which inspired millions of fans to follow the group in the 1950s and early rock n' roll era coming out of the US.

Now, millions more are enjoying their music as the Magic Platters pay tribute with their live show featuring all the Platters' hits.

The set includes On My Word of Honor, Heaven and Earth, Only You, I'm Sorry, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Red Sails in The Sunset, Sleepy Lagoon and many more Platters classics, as well as a small selection of other hits of the time performed with great accuracy and passion.

The original Platters formed in Los Angeles in 1953 and were initially managed by Ralph Bass.

The group had a contract with Federal Records but had found little success before meeting music entrepreneur and songwriter Buck Ram.

The band recorded a series of singles backing Linda Hayes before Ram made some changes to the line-up, most notably the addition of lead vocalist Tony Williams and female vocalist Zola Taylor.

Under Ram's guidance, the Platters recorded seven singles for Federal in the R&B/gospel style, scoring a few minor regional hits on the West Coast, and eventually became a very successful touring group.

The show is on Friday, 19 March starting at 8pm, tickets 15. For more information contact 01506 630085.
