Lecture gives advice on tricky canines

THE Dogs Trust re-homing centre in West Calder is holding a one-off lecture evening tomorrow to help people with challenging canines.

Behavioural experts from the charity will discuss theory and recommend practical methods for calming and handling various forms of canine conflict using examples from the thousands of dogs it cares for every year.

The talks will cover: potential dangers of "dominating" a dog; how to form an effective relationship with your dog; how to understand a dog's view of the world; non-reinforcement learning – a conflict of learning theory.

The event is aimed at trainers, but is open to anyone who works with dogs and is interested in finding out more about Dogs Trust's knowledge and experience of these areas.

The event will run from 7pm-10pm. Tickets cost 10 and are available from Susan Tonner at Dogs Trust West Calder on 01506 873459.

The charity has also been gifted a painting by Eliburn artist Joe Hawthorn for it to be used in a prize draw to raise money.

The artist called the painting "New Day Waiting".
