Addiewell Primary is all write on the night
ADDIEWELL Primary School has scooped a double in the West Lothian Young Writer contest.
More than 7,000 talented youngsters put pen to paper to try out for this year's award and 40 entries were judged so highly they picked up prizes at the glitzy award ceremony in Howden Park Centre on Tuesday night.
The overall winner was Chloe Finlayson, from Addiewell Primary, and her school also picked up the group title for the year.
Winning the Linlithgow Journal and Gazette trophy was Francesca Thomson of Low Port Primary, while Louisa Marshall, Linlithgow Primary, won the Dorothy Milne Memorial Prize.
The ceremony was led by young people too, with the star presenters, Irene McCannell, Linlithgow Academy, James Rowland, Deans Community High School, and Andrew Wolfe, Torphichen Primary, all professionally managing the event.
And Guest speaker Tamara Olori (12), a previous entrant in the competition, is now a published author and spoke to the 300 guests about always being willing to try something new and following their dream.
Councillor Peter Johnston, leader of West Lothian Council, praised everyone who took part, saying: ''The impressive number of entries from primary school children across all of West Lothian continues to demonstrate the range of children's writing skills and shows how talented these young people are.
''The quality of all the 7312 entries reflects the excellent work being done in our primary schools.''
