Balbardie are top of the class
EDUCATION chiefs have heaped generous praise on a West Lothian primary school after a recent inspection.
Inspectors from HM Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) praised the leadership, ethos and progress at Balbardie Primary School in Bathgate – home to 424 pupils – after visiting in January as part of a national survey of primary education.
Head teacher Audrey Ford said: "The success of our school is due to the strong partnership we have with our parents, carers and local community.
"I am fortunate to have wonderful teachers and support staff. Our pupils are pretty amazing too."
Strengths highlighted included the leadership of the head teacher in creating a culture of continuous improvement; a strong culture of inclusion; progress in taking forward the Curriculum for Excellence that has resulted in a significant impact on children's learning; leadership at all levels provided by staff and children; and children who are very responsible, confident, safe and happy.
Executive councillor for education, Andrew Miller, added: "We are delighted with this report. Well done to all the staff and parents who have contributed to the school's achievements."
"I believe that the vast majority of parents whose children go to Balbardie recognise what an excellent school it is and all the good work that takes place to ensure the pupils get the best possible start to their schooling.
"However, it is always pleasing to see that external inspectors also recognise the school's achievements.
"There's always room for improvement and we are confident that the staff will continue to improve upon the fantastic work that is taking place."
