Beauty student Caroline nails bronze medal

A BEAUTY therapy student has nailed a bronze medal in the Scottish finals of a prestigious hair and beauty competition.

Caroline Courtney, a level 3 student at West Lothian college, finished in third place in the 'free hand nail art' category of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition.

She will now travel to Blackpool to compete in the UK finals next week.

"The recent AHT competition was a great experience and I received excellent support from my lecturers," said the 20-year-old. "I was so nervous before and during the competition.

"I really wanted to do my best so I put a lot of thought in to what I was going to design. In the end I decided to decorate my model's nails with a zebra print theme using black and white tones. "I couldn't believe it when I found out I won bronze and had qualified for the national competition. It was so exciting."

Caroline's lecturer, Laura Johnston, said: "The annual AHT competition is an excellent opportunity for beauty therapy students to test their skills against their peers at a regional and national level.

"We will all be rooting for Caroline to win at the nationals in Blackpool."
