Council HQ hit by blackout

THE state-of-the-art West Lothian Civic Centre was left in darkness this week after a power cut forced a blackout.

The county's court, council headquarters and Livingston police station, which are all based in the building, were left without power for four hours on Monday after a broken cable cut the electricity supply.

Back-up generators powered emergency lighting, but security door locks throughout the building failed.

Livingston Sheriff Clerks' office had to close its doors after computers went down at 9am, although courts sat as usual.

Similar problems hit the procurator fiscal's office, all West Lothian Council departments and Lothian and Borders F division station.

Scottish Power blamed the cut on a fault at East Bankton Place sub station in Livingston.
