County policeman is top of the class

A COUNTY Pc has proved he is top of the class by picking up the most prestigious honour from the Police College, and making a bit of history into the bargain.

Officer Stuart Neilson, who is a crime prevention officer in the West Lothian community safety unit, delivered exceptional results and was presented with the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents Rose Bowl for the highest marks when graduating for a diploma in police service leadership and management.

The award is given to the overall top student of the academic year and Pc Neilson showed outstanding success in the 18-month study programme with the highest aggregate mark of the year. It is also the first time it has ever gone to a diploma student.

Chief Superintendent Jeanette McDiarmid, Divisional Commander for West Lothian, said: "Pc Neilson's dedication and hard work is commendable, and I am delighted this has been recognised at the Scottish Police College.

"With 25 years service, his ambition and drive is admirable, as he has already been awarded numerous accolades.

"Most recently, in West Lothian, he was instrumental in setting up the force's first Best Bar None scheme, and won an Association of Chief Police Officers award for his work on a property marking scheme in the area.

"I am pleased, but not surprised, at his success in the diploma."

Pc Neilson was among 27 officers from Lothian and Borders Police who were presented with certificates at the ceremony.
