Drew helps Uri hunt for treasure

WHEN world famous spoon-bender Uri Geller announced he was to look for Egyptian treasure on his Scots island, there was only one man he wanted to help him – West Lothian's very own spoon-bender, Drew McAdam.

Geller bought Lamb's Island, off North Berwick, last year for 30,000 and visited the outcrop for the first time last weekend looking for artefacts relating to the legend of the exiled Egyptian princess Scota, whose boat is said to have anchored there.

His theory is that Princess Scota, the sister of Tutankhamen, was exiled there after fleeing Egypt 3,000 years ago, and she may have left gold and jewels behind.

The 63-year-old believes it is one of the UK's most historically important sites, dating back to the pharaohs, and said the Lamb's geography exactly mirrors the layout of the Great Pyramids at Giza.

He also has a strong feeling treasure is buried there. He said: "It was mesmerising. It was everything I expected and more. I used my dowsing rods and I did feel something.

"I will approach the official channels for permission to excavate.

"There is a place where I think there is something, but it is a very long shot."

McAdam, a mind-reader from West Calder who became a close friend of Geller's after studying his techniques, said it was "huge thrill" accompanying his master, who has promised to visit West Lothian next time he returns.

He said: "I picked him up at the train station in Edinburgh and took him down to North Berwick.

"It was a huge thrill. Before setting off to the island where he was going to spend the night, he gave a lecture in the North Berwick Seabird Centre.

"In the course of his demonstration, making seeds germinate in seconds and moving the needle of a compass with his mind, he introduced me to the audience and had me demonstrate spoon bending.

"Can you imagine? Me bending spoons before the master. He then set off to Lamb Island with boatloads of photographers in tow.

"I went back the next day and went out in the boat to get him off the rock. He then changed his plans to catch the early train and instead had me drive him to Rosslyn Chapel.

"He is determined to come back soon though. But this time he will spend longer in Scotland in general and plans to visit West Lothian. I'm keen to show him Linlithgow Palace and have him douse in Cairnpapple."

Geller left behind a crystal sphere, which once belonged to Albert Einstein, and a heart-shaped piece of quartz on the island.

He added: "I made some great friends, and I feel I'm part Scottish now. I love Scotland more than ever. I was overjoyed I managed to buy this island.

"I'm amazed the Scottish Government allowed it to be sold. But I will make sure it will stay an animal sanctuary."
