Hardcore performance boosts band's shot at O2 gig

A COUNTY band is one step away from a dream gig after blowing away judges at a national music competition.

Hardcore Wednesdays, from Bathgate, won over the judges with a storming performance at the regional finals of Live and Unsigned in Glasgow to book a place in the penultimate round in Newcastle this month before the grand final at the O2 in London in July.

The five-piece Indie rockers blew the crowd away with a cover of The Jam's Going Underground and one of their songs, Wonders.

Lead guitarist Ryan Henery said: "I am very pleased to say we qualified for the next round after going down very well with the judges.

"We even got a mention on their twitter page saying our performance and strong frontman Big Si (Simon Scott) gave us some high marks.

"We can't wait to get to Newcastle for the next performance. The Live and Unsigned gigs are superb as they are all about raw talent and the crowds are always up for it so it makes for a brilliant night."

The next round of the contest , the North East & Scotland Final stage, will be held in Newcastle at the Journal Tyne Theatre on Sunday, 25 April.

The band will play at Whitburn Miners Welfare on 17 April.

Some of the biggest names in the industry including Radio 1's Annie Nightingale will be judging the Newcastle final where record producers will cast a beady over the next big thing.

The overall winner will play on the main stage of the Live and Unsigned Festival at the 02 on 10 July.
