If you know the ropes, take a leap for charity

IF YOU like jumping off high buildings for charity then a local cancer organisation needs your services.

Mother and daughter Mags and Kate Fenwick are appealing to brave West Lothian residents to do a 70-feet charity abseil at shopping destination The Centre in Livingston in aid of its chosen charity Bosom Buds of Scotland, which helps cancer sufferers.

Volunteers from the charity, a management team at The Centre and a team of nurses from St John's Oncology unit have already put their names forward, but with room for up to 750 people to take to the ropes there's still space for plenty more.

The charity was registered in November last year after Kate, 24, was diagnosed with breast cancer and began regularly attending the oncology unit at St John's Hospital for treatment.

She is still undergoing treatment and hopes to get back to taking fitness classes soon before moving north to start a new life with her boyfriend who is a fireman in Aberdeen.

Mags and Kate decided to create the organisation to help those going through a similar experience and raise as much money as possible to make their time at St John's Hospital more comfortable.

Mags, 55, from Linlithgow, said: "It's been some year but Kate has been one brave little cookie. She really has kept us all going.

"Anyone with kids knows they would gladly take their place. The funds raised through the abseil and other activities at The Centre will make a huge difference to those around West Lothian currently dealing with cancer."

Jennifer Bruce, marketing manager at The Centre, said: "Our charity abseil is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the shopping centre from a totally different perspective. We are appealing to individuals and groups to come forward and register their interest."

The event is on Saturday, 11 September from 10am-7pm. Anyone wishing to take part must raise a minimum of 75.

Registration forms can be picked up at the customer service desk in The Centre or at www.shopthecentre.co.uk
