Plans for 100 homes announced

PLANS to build an extra 100 council houses to ease West Lothian's waiting list have been announced.

Council homes are in short supply in West Lothian after the housing stock was reduced considerably by Right To Buy legislation and there are now almost 9,000 people waiting for council houses.

The council says 248 new homes will be ready by the end of August with 68 in Boghall, Whitburn (49), Bathgate (87) and Livingston (44).

Executive councillor for services for the community, Frank Anderson said: "I'm delighted to announce that we are going to build an extra 100 council houses."

"This development will provide people with homes built to an excellent standard and the highest quality.

"They will also enable a greater movement in allocations, that will satisfy a far greater number of our tenants' aspirations than the simple addition of 800 homes.

"This means that we will have built 800 new council homes in West Lothian by 2011 - the first council homes to be built in over 25 years."
