Police probe ravaging fires in WInchburgh
POLICE are investigating after separate fires destroyed two homes in Winchburgh on a quiet country road.
Fire crews got the call just before 8am last Sunday to attend the blaze in Beatlie Road in the Myreside area of Winchburgh, and battled the flames until 6:30pm.
The 52 firefighters on the scene had to tackle the massive flames from outside as the buildings were too dangerous to enter.
The two properties are around 20 metres apart and are separated by a line of trees. Nobody had to be rescued from either property, which were empty, and nobody was injured.
Two lines of hose from open water were used to extinguish the fire, but the single and double storey properties were both completely destroyed.
A fire service spokesman said: "Our firefighters worked hard to extinguish the blaze. "The cause of the fire is now under investigation. When they arrived the homes were well alight."
West Lothian Council's building control department was called to inspect the buildings' safety following the incident.
A council spokesman said: "Our duty building control officer attended houses affected by fire at Myreside, Winchburgh, to carry out a report on structural stability."
Police are investigating and the fire is being treating as suspicious. Demolition crews are already at the site and the buildings will be pulled down in forthcoming weeks.
