Pupils brew up £150 for charity

PUPILS from Mid Calder Primary School raised £150 at a Fairtrade event for its partner school in Uganda.

The proceeds will be shared between Fairtrade and the Lukalu Umea Primary School in the African country, which has close links to the county school.

The money was raised through a cafe and Fairtrade food stall after class 7B researched the movement and Ugandan coffee.

The pupils created presentations explaining how Fairtrade works and the returns it gives to the local growers and pickers.

Some of the group also spent a morning touring supermarkets finding out about the variety of Fairtrade produce.

Fairtrade 2010 is all about the BIG SWAP, and the children encouraged adults to change at least one frequently bought item for a Fairtrade one.
