School kids bank on future

PUPILS at a county primary school have launched their own bank after receiving financial training to help them deal with money sensibly later in life.

Seafield Primary is the latest school to open a bank in partnership with the Royal Bank of Scotland after financial education managers from the company worked closely with teachers and pupils.

"Customers" of the bank will learn how to operate their own bank account, and students will be issued with their own bank card and account number.

Students have also been encouraged to plan ahead and save.

Pupils who are working in the school bank have received training in reading financial documents, listening to instructions, completing pay-in slips and keeping accurate financial records.

RBS Moneysense manager Nancy Keane said: "The pupils have worked extremely hard to get the bank up and running and the experience that they gain will help them develop the financial management skills they will need as they older."
