School starstruck as SuBo joins party
SINGING sensation Susan Boyle took time out of her superstar life to visit kids and staff at a West Lothian school as part of a Christmas surprise treat.
Children at Holy Family Primary School in Winchburgh were starstruck three days before Christmas when the chart topper walked through the doors.
The former church volunteer from Blackburn, who spent Christmas with her family, was asked to pay the school's Christmas party a visit by head teacher Lisamaria Marzella.
And big-hearted SuBo was only too willing to oblige to add a touch of glitz and glamour to the school's end of term celebrations.
Ms Marzella said: "Susan had intended to be at our nativity performance on the Monday evening, but we had to cancel it due to bad weather, so she kindly agreed to come along to the party instead.
"Susan danced with pupils and chatted to them about her music and our school. She was very friendly and has a lovely manner with the children.
"I was delighted when Susan agreed to join our party. The pupils were so excited and she really made our party special. She is such a lovely person and will be welcome at Holy Family anytime."
Pupils were full of praise for the 48-year-old who rose to fame after appearing on TV talent show Britain's Got Talent.
P5 pupil Tegan Baxter said she was "awesome, cheerful and kind", while P6 pupil Bruce Gallagher said: "It was too cool meeting Susan because she is a such a superstar. I couldn't wait to tell my dad I met Susan Boyle.
Claire Marshall, P4, added: "Susan danced with us and we had a lot of fun. I think it's fantastic because I've never met anyone so famous before."
Figures have shown that SuBo's TV rendition of I Dreamed A Dream was watched more than 120 million times by viewers across the globe on YouTube – more than three times the number of internet hits achieved by the second most-watched video of 2009.
Ms Marzella added: "Our school choir performed for Susan and Sarah Smith (P3) sang a solo. Susan seemed very impressed.
"I told Susan that Holy Family school choir also appear on You Tube and have 153 hits, but Susan had a few more hits than that."
SuBo is now set to become a hit in Japan after being asked to perform in the country's biggest New Year's Eve show.
The Britain's Got Talent runner-up, whose debut album I Dreamed A Dream is poised to be the UK's top seller this year, hopes to win a new army of fans with her appearance on Kohaku Uta Gassen.
Millions of Japanese viewers have already watched the West Lothian singer perform on YouTube, and sources say she has been practising the Japanese folk song Wings To Fly.
She has hailed 2009 as an "absolutely brilliant year" and said that her success was "humbling". Her debut CD has sold more than 1.4 million copies in the UK.
She said: "The album being so well received is humbling and I'm so grateful. It's been an absolutely brilliant year and I can't thank everyone enough for the support I've been given."
