Sex offender sent back to jail for 16 months

A SEX offender has been given a 16 month jail sentence for failing to inform the police of his whereabouts.

In 1998, Anthony Shek was sentenced to five years at the High Court in Edinburgh for an indecent assault on a 12-year-old girl in West Lothian. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register once he was released from prison at the end of his jail term.

However, the 26-year-old failed to keep police informed of his whereabouts.

He was sentenced last Thursday, having previously pleaded guilty to failing to register with the police between 20 June, 2009, and 13 January, 2010.

Defence solicitor, Graeme Clark, said that in June 2009, Shek had been getting trouble from "other persons" who were trying to force him to take part in other offences and he was now serving time for offences involving these people.
