Stephanie has a ball raising £2000
A MOTHER whose little boy suffers from limb abnormalities has raised £2000 for the charity which helped her through a traumatic period after his birth.
Stephanie Tennant, 23, from Bathgate, wanted to thank the charity Reach for its support after son Daniel, now eight months old, was born with deficiencies on both his arms.
His left arm stops at his elbow, his right forearm is small with only three digits, and his fingers don't move so he can't pick anything up.
However, the abnormalities were missed by hospital scans before his birth and Ms Tennant and her family were left distraught when he was born.
The young mum was then put in contact with the Scottish branch of the charity Reach – the Association for Children with Upper Limb Deficiency – who helped her cope with the shock.
To thank the charity for its support, Ms Tennant and her family organised a masquearade ball in Bathgate's Cairn Hotel attended by 150 family and friends last Saturday. They raised just under 2000.
"It was a brilliant night and we raised 1.50 short of 2000, which my mum Heather put in. I'm really delighted with it as I thought we'd only raise about 1,000 at the most," said Ms Tennant, who works as a customer service advisor.
"I have to thank Paul Clement for ruining his night, though. He was one of the guests, but the DJ didn't turn up due to a booking error. He is a DJ and went home and got all the equipment and filled in which really saved the night.
"I would really like to thank all my friends, family and work colleagues for their support, and Reach for everything they've done to help me.
"The whole family was in shock when Daniel was born and Reach really helped us all through a tough time. Seeing Daniel as he is now doesn't worry me any more. He is such a beautiful and happy boy and I'm so proud of him."
Money was raised at the ball through games, an auction and a raffle, with local companies, family and friends donating items.
