Warning after fake £20 notes recovered

POLICE are warning county residents and shop owners to be vigilant after a number of fake £20 notes were passed in shops in the Bathgate area.

The counterfeit 10 and 20 Royal Bank of Scotland notes were recovered from two different shops in the town from August 2-4, and there were a number of other reported incidents.

A spokesman for the police said: "We are urging all shop workers to double-check any notes being handed over in transaction at the moment.

"In particular, we would remind them to look at the paper quality, print quality, metallic security thread and the watermark. If you suspect you have been given a fake bank note, seize it and hand it to police for investigation."
