JUNIORS ROUND-UP: Coyne in mint condition as Rose break Hearts

A BRACE from star striker Tommy Coyne saw Linlithgow Rose storm to the top of the Super League following a 2-0 win over Kelty Hearts at Prestonfield.

Rose took the lead after ten minutes from the penalty spot following a handball by Kelty's Andy Rollo and Coyne stepped up to drive the ball wide of the keeper for an early lead.

The home supporters sat back expecting an avalanche of goals but it wasn't to be and Rose keeper Steven Pinkowski was by far the busier of the two, keeping his goal intact between a string of good saves and poor finishing by the Kelty strikeforce.

But just before the half-time whistle Linlithgow scored again. This time Adam Nelson, in his own half, played a high ball deep into the heart of the visiting defence and Coyne raced after it outpacing a static Rollo.

The ball bounced nicely for the hitman before he stroked it wide of the advancing keeper for number two.

Super League rivals Bathgate Thistle could only manage a draw at home to Lochee United.

Lochee controlled the opening 45 minutes but the match remained goal-less.

Bathgate opened the scoring in the 55th minute when Graeme McLaren headed Chris Wilson's inch perfect cross past Lochee keeper Ross, but five minutes from time and against the run of play, the visitors grabbed an equaliser through a Phil Hagan deflected shot.

Broxburn sit proudly at the top of the ACAS Premier League thanks to a 5-0 win over Carnoustie Panmure that would have beaten the best, with John Jeffrey bagging a hat-trick.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Whitburn were beaten at home by Penicuik Ahtletic 2-0.

It was another disappointing week for West Calder in the South Division with a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Spartans.

However, it was a good day at the office for ten-man Blackburn United who trounced Tranent Juniors 4-0 in East Lothian in a heated encounter.

Tranent were no match for well-organised Blackburn and Paddy Donnelly scored on 12 minutes to give the county side an early lead when he had time and space to rifle the shot home, and on 23 minutes Anthony McLaughlin put Burn two ahead after finding the net from close range.

Davie Sneddon then stepped up to score from the spot before Belters keeper Sinclair Inglis gifted a fourth goal to Nick Millar when he mis-handled on 75 minutes.

Other results were: Armadale Thistle 5-0 Kinnoull; Stoneyburn Juniors 1-1 Haddington Athletic; Harthill Royal 2-2 Edinburgh United; Dunbar United 0-1 Fauldhouse United; Pumpherston Juniors 0-3 Livingston United.
