Livingston chief hails 'magnificent' effort
LIVINGSTON chief executive Ged Nixon today hailed the achievement of Gary Bollan and his players as "magnificent" as they put one hand on the Third Division championship trophy following a 1-1 draw at Berwick on Tuesday night.
A win would have seen the West Lothian side clinch the title, but they had to settle for a draw at the end of a tight match.
Nixon, who worked so hard in the summer to save the club, said: "What Gary and the players have done is nothing short of magnificent.
"Don't forget this club could easily have gone out of business and then everyone had to refocus all over again after being demoted from the First Division. The way they reacted to all that has been fantastic, and at times they have been mesmerising to watch."
Livi have won the title barring a meltdown.
Forfar can only draw level on points now by winning their remaining four games and they would have to make up a difference of 17 goals, while Livi would have to lose all their games.
Midfielder Keaghan Jacobs, who has been involved in every match this season except the last two due to a shoulder injury, is itching to get back for Saturday's home game against Berwick again.
He said: "It's been great to see how hard the players have fought this year after what happened at the end of last season.
"I'm doing everything I can to get back for Saturday and my shoulder is recovering quite quickly thankfully.
"It would be nice to get a home win on Saturday to win the league, but I think the fans just want to see us win the league now whether it's home or away."
Tuesday's game was nip and tuck until Stevie Tosh converted a penalty in the 71st minute, however former Hibee Damon Gray hit an equaliser four minutes later when he accepted a David Greenhill lay-off to dampen the celebrations of the travelling Lions fans.
Gray had come closest to opening the scoring in the first-half when his shot was cleared off the line by defender Jason Talbot.
Tosh also saw a shot fly just wide of an upright and Berwick's Paul Currie blazed his strike over the crossbar.
Livi also suffered a scare when goalkeeper Roddy McKenzie was injured late on in the first-half. After the break, Berwick almost broke the deadlock when a Greenhill 30-yard howitzer pinged back off the bar.
An unhappy Bollan said: "Our first-half performance was not up to scratch."
