Winners keep it in the family for egg-cellent Easter races

A FATHER and son were podium pals at the first-ever West Lothian Run 10km and 5km events at Beecraigs Country Park on Easter Sunday.

Alasdair Blair was the first to cross the line for the 10km event in 43 minutes 21 seconds, and his son Robbie finished third in the 5km race in 21:56, despite a fall midway through, to round up a successful day for the Bathgate family.

There were 48 runners in total who took part in the Easter fun run organised by non-profit making organisation West Lothian Run (WLR).

Race director Lindsay Colman said: "I'm very pleased at how things went on the day after all the rain and snow we had before the race.

"There were some muddy patches on the course causing concern beforehand, but everyone chipped in and worked hard to ensure that the race would go ahead and I'm very grateful to the volunteers and committee.

"It was a tremendous family day out and the children loved our Easter egg hunt while the race was going on. We've had great feedback from people on Facebook.

"Our main event – the half marathon in Bathgate – is in May and this was a great way to build up to that."

The route took the runners from the Balvormie car park at the adventure playground, over the picnic area and right round to the road that winds down to the Beecraigs Loch, round that and up past the deer farm, over the road past the caravan area and back up to the finish line at the adventure playground.
